First Bulgarian-German-Romanian Archaeological Expedition Ends
The first ever Bulgrian-German-Romanian archaeological expedition to sites on the Romanian bank of the Danube dating back to the late Antiquity and the early and late Roman era, ended on Sunday. The expedition was part of a German project funded by the Roman-German Commission of the German Institute of Archaeology, said the director of the Rousse Archaeological Museum, Roumyan Ganchev. The expedition studied and made files on all sites on the 4-km Danubian area stretch of Romania. The project will continue on the Bulgarian side of the river, which has scores of Roman castles. German archaeologists have been providing support for the excavations at the Yatrus fortress near the Krivina village for half a century now. The German and Romanian archaeologists got in contact with the meditation of the Rousse museum workers and the Institute of Archaeology with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, said Roumyan Ganchev. The Rousse museum has cooperation agreements with the Roman-German Commission and with the archaeological museums in Bucharest and Giurgiu. bta <http://www.b-info.com/tools/miva/newsview.mv?url=news/2001-04/text/apr01f.bta> (29.12.2005)
